Kodak Updates Pixpro SP360 Software for Better Youtube 360 Degree Video Support

kodak pixpro beta software sp360 youtube 360 degree video support somegadgetguyKodak’s Pixpro SP360 is one of the first consumer accessible cameras to properly support Youtube’s new 360 video feature, but the way Kodak produced panoramic video didn’t work very well with how Youtube implemented the feature.

Over the weekend, the Pixpro team released BETA desktop software which provides a new Youtube Compatible format, and the results are night and day better.

Previously, you had to convert the video into a thin strip panorama for Youtube to recognize it, which would distort the vertical axis. Here’s our first 360 degree test with the SP360.

Now re-uploading the same video after rendering through the new Youtube mode!

It’s an exciting new feature, allowing people to shoot immersive and interactive content, and it’s always a good sign to see companies updating and improving their products to support new features!

  1. what setting did you shoot in on the kodak camera? I’ve been trying the different modes and am having bad results…

  2. Hi,
Are you guys aware of any other software (beside pixpro 360) which can handle the videos taken with a sp360?
Exporting videos takes ages with pixpro and I asked myself if there is any other tool which I could use to create youtube compatible videos based on videos coming from sp360. An alternative would really appreciated as the pixpro crashes all the time.

  3. Every time I upload to Youtube it seems to pic a different point to center around and it makes it so the video doesn’t pan right with google cardboard. How do I record to get it right? How do I export to get it right?

  4. Hi Juan Carlos

Excellent video. You shed a lot of light over emerging technology. Thumbs up for that.

Have you tried any of this cameras for 360?

    Ricoh Theta
    Giroptic 360cam
    IC Real Tech Allie

Theta does not have black areas and it seems very easy and fast to upload directly to YouTube without much editing. Great benefits albeit sacrificing quality.

Giroptic seems to have a good quality, although probably still inferior to the Kodak. It also has a wider field of view though still with a blind spot.

I have not been able to find retailers for the IC Real Tech Allie. It does seem to be a good camera and have some advantages over the others.

  5. I have spent hours and hours trying to get this to work, mostly it does not. the latest software is on the European site, not on the American one.. but the video they show on how to upload is using the European upgrade. These guys really need to figure this out.I tried uploading 50 to 60 times. very few succeed. when i record and upload, it seems to rip out the 360 view. Any tips i’m desperate. This is a very very poor softwear that kodak has created. i’ve had other IT folks look at it and they could not upload either. I do not recommend the camera at this point.
