Last week the FCC redefined broadband internet, moving it from 4Mbps download / 1Mbps upload, to a far more modern 25Mbps down / 3Mbps up. With the stroke of a pen, now almost 20% of the population here in the United States no longer had access to “broadband” internet access?
Were you one of those folks? Has your service provider been able to keep pace with infrastructure and data needs? Drop us a comment below!
Not sure how much speed I’m getting from this internet provider (I’m not in the U.S. right now, but I am getting broadband-like speeds here), but back at my house in AZ, we do have broadband internet. We upgraded just a few years ago after being stuck with dial-up for years since the neighborhood head office didn’t allow internet companies to the neighborhood for a long time.
But do you know if your current speeds qualify as Broadband under these new guidelines?
Verizon DSL did not really meet the old definition. I’m falling further behind.
Ouch. And Verizon is always touting their class leading speed…
It’s a rural area. 50 miles away (Austin), Google is installing fiber optic. So close, yet so far ……
Ugh that burns. Hoping they run some lines out to you.
I get 18 down and 1.6 up, so I guess I no longer have broadband. =/
I think quite a few folks are going to find the goal posts were moved on them…
