Review: Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5212 Laptop

C55KB

I was recently editing an audiobook when my HP laptop completely stopped working on me. I am known for using my devices until they are on their last leg of life. I needed a great replacement and I had to stay within budget. A few friends of mine have Toshiba Satellite laptops so I decided to head over to Toshiba’s and see what they had to offer. I came across the Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5212. It was reasonably priced. So I read some reviews and decided to place the order. It has been a while since I had purchased a new laptop and it was time for a change like when I switched from Android to a Windows Phone 8.

About 7 days later the Toshiba C55D-B5212 showed up via UPS. There is no un boxing in this review. So let’s jump right into the review. The first step was to download all the updates to get the new laptop up to speed and up to date. The updates took about 30 minutes. The Toshiba C55D-B5212 comes equipped with Windows 8.1 so I was interested to see how the new operating system would compare to Windows 7 Ultimate. After the updates were good to go, it was time to see what the new laptop could do. I was able to sync all of my social media, email and xbox live apps seamlessly with Windows 8.16tag_050914-134535 Continue reading “Review: Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5212 Laptop”

App Review – Pako by Tree Man Games

pakohdr

Pako sounds like it could be a board game, but is it? Nope! Pako is a super fun and crazy addicting game that involves the cops and you. Yes you!

wp_ss_20140630_0007The action begins with you in a parking lot in a car and yet for some reason you are going to be chased down by the cops! I hope you have some drifting skills because you will need them and by the way, you have no brakes. No brakes at all! If you crash into a building, a tree, a car or any other object, the game starts again. The object of the game is to see how long you can survive without crashing or being caught by the cops. App Review: UPS has landed on Windows Phone!

Screenshot_13It looks like another official app has been added to the growing number of apps for Windows Phone users.  UPS has arrived! The UPS app should be super useful for those running a small and big business or for when Some Gadget Guy sends out prizes to contest winners!

The design of the app has a modern UI and the familiar brown and gold UPS branding. You can sign in with Facebook, MYUPS ID or you can just skip the sign in and get down to tracking your packages.  The UPS app also gives you the option of requesting a quote for shipping and will let you pick your preferred method of shipment such as UPS Overnight to UPS ground and everything in between. The UPS app lets you choose your packaging from a tube  all the way to the large UPS  Express Box. Are you shipping an oddball sized box? The UPS app has you covered in that department as well! Just enter the box dimensions while requesting your quote.

Longterm Review: RAVPOWER Lipstick Charger and Flashlight

ltrlip

Back in November of last year I reviewed the Ravpower Lipstick charger and I am here to give you my longterm update on this awesome yet inexpensive portable charger!

003I use this everyday for all of my gadgets and the Ravpower is always in my backpack or messenger bag ready to charge my device.  On one occasion, while riding my bike super-fast like Evil Knievel, I pulled the Ravpower out of my pocket to use the flashlight, as the headlight on my bike had run out of juice, and I dropped the Ravpower! NOOOOOO! It went skidding across the street kind of like that flat stone you skipped across the lake in the summer. It missed certain destruction from a car by about a foot or so.  I thought to myself  “Self, I have a feeling it’s done…” Continue reading “Longterm Review: RAVPOWER Lipstick Charger and Flashlight”

App Review: Battery Performance by Dev-Software

Screenshot_4Have you ever wondered how your phone is handling  it’s battery life? The folks over at Dev-Software may just have the answer you are looking for.  Battery Performance has a wonderful app that you should check out!

Battery Performance has a really slick UI that is both eye pleasing and functional. This app is all about the visual performance of your phone’s battery, showcasing a number of ways to see what your battery is up to such as live tiles, logs, statistics, life cycle and much more. Once the app is downloaded to your Windows Phone it will take a few seconds to gather your data. I was pretty impressed with this app’s straightforward delivery of information and fluid UI.

APP Review: MOVE by NiTako

moveA copy

Do you love a game that can really change your mind? I may just have the brain shifting game for you!

MOVE developed by NiTAKO has really done an outstanding job of developing a game that really puts your brain to work! MOVE starts out easy and laid back. So here’s the deal. You need to maneuver 3 different colored circles into position. Those circles move together as one unless they are blocked. The less moves you make will give you a higher ranking.  MOVE will get harder with each level when you have to move 5 circles instead of 3.

Microsoft developers receive Google’s official API

GAPI copy

This is great news for Window’s Phone 8 users and developers who miss Google’s official apps.  Back in January I wrote an article on Google VS. Microsoft.

Google has released over  50 API’s  for developers.  Here are a few that are on that list:

  • Google Plus
  • YouTube
  • Drive
  • Ad Exchange
  • Blogger
  • Orkut

Although we may never see any “official” apps from Google heading to the Microsoft Store, this does open up the door for developers to create an awesome Google app using the official Google API.

Personally I would love to see Rudy Huyn develop a really killer G+ app! If you are unfamiliar with Rudy then check out his apps. Rudy is responsible for one of the most awesome Instagram apps called 6tag!
