Pixel 4XL Review: Where we accept it’s a REALLY good phone!

At some point we need to acknowledge that the Pixel 4 is a good phone. A REALLY good phone. The healthy debate isn’t “winner or loser”. Instead, the tricky question for Pixel fans:

How large is the audience for THIS phone, who won’t be satisfied by a Pixel 3A?

Can we make it a rule? That we don’t take Pixel reviews seriously until we see the fabric case is messed up? I mean, like someone actually used the phone enough to get a LITTLE life on it… Continue reading “Pixel 4XL Review: Where we accept it’s a REALLY good phone!”

#SGGQA 124 – The Sleep Deprived Pajama Podcast and Fun Travel Tech!

15 hours in a car with a cranky toddler, but we made it home in time to get a little sleep and set up a podcast! I HAVE NO SHOW PREPPED, but that doesn’t mean we can’t ramble through some holiday stories and travel tech.

Pixel 4 XL Camera Conclusion: Exactly what Google promised…

I’m going to get a LOT of criticisms about my “tone” when the public version of this review is published.

I have a hard time with the inconsistency of reviews we’ve seen on the Pixel 4. I haven’t seen a lot of folks review the phone for what it really is. Instead, most seem fine focusing on what the phone is NOT, and calling it a day.

Well, I love a good underdog fight. There’s quite a bit of crankiness in this video, but let’s see if we can judge the Pixel by the same criteria we rate all phone cameras.

  • 1. What are the manufacturer’s claims?
  • 2. Has it improved over previous generations of Pixel?
  • 3. How does it stack up to the competition?

Who is the Pixel for? Let’s see if we can answer that together! Continue reading “Pixel 4 XL Camera Conclusion: Exactly what Google promised…”

Asus ROG Phone II Review and Some Thoughts on How Gaming Phones are Reviewed…

What makes a phone a GAMING phone?

One part phone review. One part cranky soapbox on how no phone will ever really be “good enough” to tempt reviewers away from the most popular brands for YT SEO. If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree…

This was a LOT of phone for me to wrap my brain around in two weeks. Let’s chat specs, hardware, and UNCOMPROMISING performance. Continue reading “Asus ROG Phone II Review and Some Thoughts on How Gaming Phones are Reviewed…”

LG G8X vs LG G8: The difference ONE letter makes!

Will a phone by any other name perform as sweetly? Sure!

I really thought these two would be more similar, but ONE accessory decision makes them feel significantly different. The G8X couldn’t feel more different from the G8 than if they were made by different manufacturers.

Let’s take a quick tour through what’s different! Continue reading “LG G8X vs LG G8: The difference ONE letter makes!”

#SGGQA 123: FCC Sued AGAIN, Google and Health Data, e-Mustangs, John Legere Stepping Down as T-Mobile CEO, YouTube is getting Ugly

At what point do you pull the plug? Youtube drama is in high gear AGAIN. A popular streamer had a huge chunk of their videos demonetized because of a song in the YouTube Audio Library. Also, how are content creators handling COPPA?

John Legere announces he will be stepping down as CEO of T-Mobile. Ford unveiled a new e-Mustang. The FCC is getting sued AGAIN. And what should we do about health data and private companies.

Let’s get our tech week started off right!

Smartphone Thermal Throttle Test: Pixel 4XL vs LG V50 vs OnePlus 7T vs Asus ROG II

EPIC smartphone throttle test!

If we want phones to start replacing laptops, they have to handle heavier workloads. I’ve gotten criticisms that my video rendering test is too short, so let’s REALLY drive some phones hard. What if we rendered a WHOLE MOVIE on a phone? Can our mobile gadgets hand with laptops? Will phones run too hot?

Only one way to know! We gotta do it!

Apple: Premium e-Waste and Normalizing Disposability

Let’s be frank. If I hadn’t put “Apple” in the post title, would you have clicked on it?

The reason this article is going to focus on Apple, they are the highest profile company pushing these kinds of manufacturing decisions. If you’re a fan of Apple hardware, I’m sure there will be an inclination towards defending your brand.

“Other companies are doing things like this too.”

Other companies should be criticized too.

Though, we should acknowledge that many of these companies wouldn’t be following this path without Apple. AirPods show how profitable it is to make expensive headphones as disposable as possible. Apple stands to take the lion share of the profits with this tactic. It’s my belief we should start with the largest companies, and THEN work down to smaller players copying Apple.

We should “punch up” with our criticisms. Apple is currently the king of this e-waste hill. We’ll start with them. Continue reading “Apple: Premium e-Waste and Normalizing Disposability”
