Tech YouTubers Talk: Is the Headphone Jack Really Obsolete? – Painfully Honest Tech

I’m a big fan of Jason Lewis over at Painfully Honest Tech. When he reached out to chat about smartphone audio, I was game to join the conversation.

I complain about the removal of the headphone jack all the time. I know it gets annoying. Sorry. But I thought I’d bring in some friends to help me work through the problem and answer the question: Is the Headphone Jack Obsolete?

Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review: The Beast is Now a Beauty

Spending a couple weeks with Huawei’s newest flagship has reinforced our first impressions. This just might be the most attractive phone of 2017. Over that time though, we have more to report on what it’s like to actually use the phone. The Mate name carries a reputation for power user performance. Does this phone live up to that reputation?

FCC Plans Vote to Overturn Net Neutrality, Just in Time for the Holidays

We have a problem when companies that control access to the internet also have a vested interest in distributing content on the internet. We have a problem when service providers have unrestricted control to throttle or make access more expensive. We have a problem as major corporations find easier paths to mergers and acquisitions rather than compete.

There really isn’t a “both sides” to this issue. Far smarter individuals than I have spent months clearing the fog of misinformation surrounding this topic. I would highly recommend following Gigi Sohn as one example, she was legal counsel to Tom Wheeler when he was Chairman of the FCC. Her interviews are fantastic. I would also read the dissenting opinions of Mignon Clyburn, an FCC Commissioner opposed to ending Net Neutrality.

In a nutshell, you either want unrestricted access to the internet at fair and competitive prices, free of any influence over the speed of competing services, OR you want Verizon, Comcast, and AT&T to decide what you can access, how you can access, and to charge subscribers and content providers arbitrarily for what you access. My segment on unlocked phones is live on Fox 11’s site! Where we use tiny LOCKERS, to talk about UNLOCKING savings, by buying UNLOCKED phones! The Price is Right theme song was also a nice touch.

It was pretty hilarious how excited the anchors got about the new Blackberry Keyone. Maria just wouldn’t put it down…

Decades of Canadian TV Legally Uploaded to Youtube: Degrassi, Due South, Slings & Arrows

Maybe not quite as popular as shows from the UK or USA, Canada has produced some classic television. Charming programs with fantastic casts and excellent writing. YouTube Channel Encore+ is working with several Canadian production and distribution companies to preserve some popular titles, making them freely available to all who want to watch. Personally, I’m excited to see an easy way to stream Slings & Arrows, since the wife and I are Shakespeare nerds, and this show is one of the truest (and funniest) representations of a life spent in theatre.

Other classics include Are You Afraid of the Dark, Due South, and Degrassi. Conveniently organized in playlists by show, Encore+ promises more to come. Shocking to see under 6000 subscribers at the time this post was written. Check out the link below for some excellent (and free) TV watching.
