#SGGQA 311 – Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Reactions, MacBooks Aren’t Repairable, Disney Dumps Metaverse

Happy Monday!

Embargoes are dropping and I can finally chat about some of the tech on my desk! Like a new 3D printer from AnkerMake, and the mini-drone I’ve been flying!

Also, Disney dumps the metaverse. CNET dumps thousands of old articles. Apple dumps repairability on the MacBook. Firefox dumps the INABILITY to install browser extensions.

And we have to check out the Mix Fold 3 announcement from Xiaomi!

#SGGQA 310 – Qualcomm Takes a RISC, Fusion Power Breakthrough, YouTube Enhanced Playback, Trying to Figure Out LK-99

Happy Monday!

This might be the most science-y show I’ve ever tried to put together!

Qualcomm is partnering with firms to develop RISC competitors to ARM. YouTube is ENHANCING 1080p playback for Premium users. ISPs are likely grifting the FCC. Amazon and WalMart are still selling expired Chromebooks.

And what the heck is going on with LK-99? What’s a Superconductor? Augh! My Brain!

Can the Pixel Tablet change my mind about smart displays?

No? Not really? I dunno?

I’m spending a bit more time right now putting the Pixel Fold through its paces, but at the same time, trying to play with this pretty new tablet! An early stream of conscious impression, there’s ONE critical question that itches my brain.

Is this the Smart Display I’ve been waiting for?

A little personal background, my Wife and I are not super fond of “always listening” products in our home.

We chose Playstation over XBox because Marie didn’t like the idea of the voice actions and cameras on the XBox. We’re probably a little reactionary in that regard, but we’ve never really jumped on the smart speaker train either.

Considering the assistant integration on modern phones and tablets, it’s something we’ve been considering a bit more, and Marie has found some situations where she thinks she would have appreciated a mini-screen displaying relevant info on request.
