UPDATE from AT&T – Samsung Announces Galaxy S6 Active

CGlodt8UIAA98cp.jpg largeUPDATE!

AT&T has finally weighed in! The Galaxy S6 Active will be available starting June 12. They’re being frustratingly coy about pricing, just giving us the Next monthly payment pricing. At $23 a month on Next 24, that would put price near the HTC One M9 and LG G Flex 2. We can expect an off contract price over $700.

Also interesting, AT&T is listing the battery at 3500mAh, instead of the 2550mAh that Samsung listed the battery at. If this  is true, we could have a monster variant of the S6 on our hands, as battery life on the regular S6 is often criticized.

You can catch AT&T’s full press release after the original blog post below.

Google & Amazon Cut Price of Nexus 6 Smartphone by $150

Google’s monster phablet is getting a price cut!

The Nexus 6 has dropped $150 from its price tag on the Google Play store, and Amazon has followed suit. This applies to both the 32GB and 64GB models which are currently selling for $499 and $549 respectively.

It’s unknown whether this is a permanent price drop, a special sale being run for Father’s day, or a promotion to line up with the first round of invites for Project Fi (Google’s MVNO phone service). However, if you were shopping a stock Android phone, the price just got a LOT sweeter.

Asus Announces ZenWatch 2 Android Wear Smartwatch

We still think the Asus ZenWatch is one of the more attractive smartwatches on the market today, but Asus has already taken the wraps off of their follow up.

The Zen Watch 2 will come in more color options, and have more straps available in plastic, leather, and metal. The front face will now be made out of Gorilla Glass 3, the build will be more durable with an IP67 rating, and a new magnetic charger will be included.

It doesn’t look like a dedicated heart rate monitor will be included, which might be a good thing for folks with skin conditions, but the ZenWatch 2 will get a crown button, which has proven very useful on the LG G Watch R and Moto 360.

You can catch the Asus teaser vid and full press release below.

How to Restore Browser Tabs in Mobile Chrome for Android 5.0 Lollipop

I’m not a fan of how Chrome handles browser tabs by mixing them into the main list of apps when multitasking. I think it’s very poor design for a smartphone, cluttered and a waste of space. Thankfully there’s a way to fix this!

Microsoft’s Cortana Coming to Android and iOS

cortanaAs part of their roll out for Windows 10, Microsoft will be making their services as accessible as possible to people on all operating systems. They’ll be delivering music apps, for example, which will tie into OneDrive for people to stream their entire music collection anywhere they have data.

Most interesting however is the recent reveal that their digital assistant Cortana will also be going cross platform. Syncing any phone with a Windows 10 PC will setup their companion app which provides deep integration with services on the phone.

Similar to Google Now and Siri, Cortana can look for relevant information in emails and calendar entries, and can respond to voice commands. She’s become popular for having a bit more personality than offerings from Google or Apple.

It’s an interesting move from Microsoft as they shift away from making popular services exclusive to their ecosystem, and opens the door to broad adoption from people on every platform. You can catch more info in their announcement video below.
