Samsung Announces New Faster MicroSD Memory Cards Which Galaxy S6 Users Can’t Use

Samsung is releasing newer, faster SD and MicroSD cards.

The EVO+ line of cards will feature 80MB/s Read and 20MB/s write speeds. There’s definitely more of a focus on listening to music and watching high resolution video from these cards. EVO+ will arrive in 64GB and 128GB flavors.

Their new Pro line will step up to 95MB/s read and write speeds for the full sized SD card and 90MB/s read and write speeds for the MicroSD card in 32GB and 64GB flavors. These are cards focused on content creation, especially for folks shooting UHD video like that found on the NX1 or Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung is a premier manufacturer of flash memory products, we’ve reviewed their EVO Solid State computer drives, so it’s just a bit of a shame that Galaxy S6 owners wont be able to utilize these faster cards. No pricing or availability yet on these new EVO cards, but they are expected later this month.

Want to use a Flash Drive on a phone or tablet? Sony launches drive with full sized and Micro USB connectors!

This one’s pretty much for the Android users.

Did you know that most modern Android Phones support USB host to some degree? That means you can often connect low power USB devices to your phone or tablet, and the device will recognize them. Does your phone lack a MicroSD? You can probably augment your storage with a USB Flash Drive. Of course this often means have to keep track of an adapter cable, one that will convert your phone’s Micro USB port into a full sized USB port.

Sony’s new 2-in-1 drive offers up a potential solution for this issue. With a full sized USB 2 jack on one side and a Micro USB on the other. This should make sneaker-netting your files between computer and mobile device much easier. While Cloud Storage can help expand our gadget’s capabilities, sometimes it’s just faster and easier to go old school Plug & Play.

Sony says the device will work on most Android devices starting with Android 4.0.3 and newer. Prices start at $20 for an 8GB drive and scale up to $63 for 32GB. Drives should be available starting January 2014.

Kingston ships new encrypted USB 3 Flash Drives – Password protect your data with DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0

I used to work a government contract. Even though I don’t handle sensitive information anymore I still password protect just about every device I own. I recently reviewed the Kingston DataTraveler 6000, a USB 2 flash drive which uses military grade encryption and anti-intrusion measures to make sure your mobile data can never fall into the wrong hands. I liked it a lot.

Kingston is now introducing a pair of USB 3 protected drives which might be good for businesses or those just looking for a bit more piece of mind with their own personal data. The Vault Privacy 3.0 features hardware based 256-bit AES encryption and password protection. After 10 failed login attempts the drive wipes itself clean making sure your data can’t be accessed.

The Vault Privacy 3.0 Anti-Virus offers all of the same intrusion protections while adding anti-virus protections into the mix courtesy of ESET/ClevX to protect against viruses, worms, rootkits, and other malware.

Both Vaults are available in sizes from 4GB to 64GB, and Kingston is first to market with USB 3 protected drives. Check them out if you’ve been looking for strategies to safeguard your info.

Review: RAVPower Wireless Card and Flash Drive Reader – Use WiFi to share files between phones and tablets!

I’m stoked to see more gadgets like this.

Getting files on and off our tablets and phones can be painful. As much as these devices claim autonomy, often we still need to resort to plugging them into proper computers. Wireless drives afford us more flexibility in handling our mobile data, allowing us to build portable clouds, and providing us easier solutions for sharing media with other people.

Let’s take a look at RAVPower’s entry into this gadget class with the RP-WD01.
