I love both of these camera platforms, and I can’t think of two phones that both represent “mobile professional” better, but do so in such SIGNIFICANTLY different ways. Spending this much on a camera focused phone, we REALLY want to highlight how well they can specialize on the needs of specific consumers.
How long can our phones shoot 4K video? Will they overheat? Setting up a consistent test for camera performance is a little tricky. Tracking JUST 4K video recording, let’s see if phones this year are REALLY running cooler than phones sold last year!

The phone shoots decent video, but if we want to shoot clips out in the field, what can we do to spruce up our footage? The Pixel doesn’t have any manual or Pro modes for the camera.

Video stabilization is REALLY important, but do YOU look for other stabilization modes on YOUR phone?
If we’re running after kids, or doing some high adventure vlogging, what features matter most to you? Not all stabilization is created equal, and we can surely point to some phones that shoot smoother in full auto. There are OTHER options to smooth out video though, both features on your phone, and other devices we can mount our phones to.
The OnePlus embargo has lifted, and I believe this is one of the best “performance per dollar” phones available in North America. I shot a round up of smaller videos to chat about the 11, and also compare it against some other top tier devices.
Almost a year after I wrote this editorial, I’m happy to report that Google Photos has been updated, and we see a HUGE improvement to processing times!
The rest of the app is still ugly and clumsy, but now it’s ugly, clumsy, and FASTER!!!

Not the SERVICE Google Photos. The SERVICE is great. I’m talking about the Google Photos app.
Google Photos (the app) kinda sucks. Allow me to explain.
I’ve been digging into the iQOO 11, and performance testing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It’s really exciting to see the improvements coming to PREMIUM tier smartphones. These are much better behaved hot rod pocket computers.
I’ve added some new tests to my collection of benchmarks, and I’m tracking two different tests using Google Photos.
Not the “best” phones of the year. Certainly not the most popular phones of the year.
I believe Google and Sony have made the most distinctly different phones from each other, and these phones are the “bookends” of the Premium Android market.
