Movies You May Have Missed 038: Learn the Gun Kata in ‘Equilibrium’ (MYMHM Recovered)

A dark, dystopian future where emotions are outlawed, but we aren’t spared Taye Diggs gorgeous smile. We don’t really care about that plot though. ‘Equilibrium’ delivers action porn in spades through the ridiculous creation of a new form of Kung Fu! Thankfully the film takes it seriously enough for this action porn to be fun. GUN KATA!

Raising a kid in the internet age is a really heady challenge. My wife and I have long conversations about how to bring up a daughter. When should we introduce tech? How should we bring our daughter into social media conversations?

I was really happy to join the Nerds With Kids podcast to chat about some of these challenges, our early attempts at potty training, and showing off some cool kid books and gadgets.

An amazing example of some creepy meta film making. An alternate reality look at the creation of a classic silent film masterpiece. What if the vampire in ‘Nosferatu’ wasn’t an actor? What if that movie was made with a REAL monster as the star. Let’s play!

Movies You May Have Missed 034: ‘La Haine’ (MYMHM Recovered)

Mathieu Kassovitz (The Crimson Rivers) took the film world by storm with La haine (Hate), a gritty, unsettling, and visually explosive look at racial and cultural volatility in modern-day France, specifically the low-income banlieues on Paris’s outskirts. Aimlessly passing their days in the concrete environs of their dead-end suburbia, Vinz, Hubert, and Saïd. White, Black, and Arab, they give human faces to France’s immigrant and marginalized populations. Their resentment simmering until it reaches a boiling point. A work of tough beauty, La Haine is a landmark of contemporary French cinema and a gripping reflection of its country’s ongoing identity crisis.
