Support Your RODE Wireless Go II in the Field: ZGCINE ZG-R30 Charge Case

It’s one of the most exciting aspects of mobile production. The pro-sumer audio market is rapidly improving, the tech is getting better, and prices are falling. As we get better microphones though, we also want to see better growth for accessories. It seems silly to mention, but it matters if we have good options for cases and chargers. A good wireless mic system all on its own might be more challenging to use if we don’t have gear to support those products.

The RODE Wireless Go II are making enough of an impact however, it’s encouraging to see solutions like this third part charge case from ZGCine.
RODE’s solution is excellent, and these little mics have largely taken over most of my YouTube and podcast production. The included pouch in the box though doesn’t deliver much peace of mind for protecting these mics. This is doubly troublesome if you use RODE’s magnetic mounts. The magnets snap together aggressively enough they can crack the magnets.

Soon after the Go II launch, I invested in a hard case to better store the mics and keep them from snapping together. It also gave me a slightly larger sleeve for cables and accessories.

The RODE mics and receiver have solid battery life, and it’s not difficult running for hours when out in the field. One reason why professional gear uses swappable batteries though, if you do start to run low, you can quickly pop out some AA’s and get back into shooting fast. If you run the battery low on a rechargeable transmitter, it’s a little harder to charge it back up WHILE you’re shooting.

The Go II are really fun for field work, but you do have that little gremlin in the back of your head when it comes to power. If I need to charge them up in the field, I’ve got to charge three discrete gadgets, and most of my portable batteries only have two USB ports.

Gear Review: IntoCircuit 13,000 mAh Power Castle Portable Battery

banner13000 copy

Back in October 2014 I reviewed the IntoCircuit 11200 mAh Power Bank. Today we are looking at IntoCircuit’s 13000 mAh Power Bank.

Not much has changed aesthetically for the IntoCircuit power bank. The body of the battery has a nice brushed aluminum finish which measures 5.1″ X 0.9″ X 3.1″.

It might be a little too bulky to keep in your pocket, however it will fit nicely in your backpack, messenger bag, or purse. At the end of the power bank you will find a durable rubber face with a 1 Amp USB charging port, a 2.1 Amp USB charging port, and the MicroUSB port to recharge the power bank. Instead of a “four dot” capacity readout, you get a nice LED status bar showing your power bank’s charge percentage!

Also on board is an LED flashlight that does a pretty good job lighting up the night. The Intocircuit 13000mAh power bank comes with a nice velvet bag to keep the aluminum finish from getting scratched.

Gear Review: IntoCircuit PC11200 Power Bank

WP_20141007_015Today we are taking a look at IntoCircuit’s 11200 mAh portable power bank! As you may or may not know, we here at Some Gadget Guy are not into unboxings, however I really do like the packaging and colors that this battery is packed in. With that being said, let’s jump right into the review!

Upon opening the box and pulling out the power bank, you will immediately notice that this power bank has a hefty feel (278G), and it has a very nice brushed aluminum case. The design is simple yet rugged looking and measures 4.3” X 2.8” X 0.9” . There is a nice bright LCD screen that will light up for 30 seconds so you can see the progress of your devices being charged. The display will also show you which port is being used. The IntoCircut PC11200 has one button to turn the power bank on and off. When you double press the button, you will activate the flashlight. Yes, the IntoCircuit PC11200 has a bright flashlight which would come in very handy for multiple situations. I really like the flashlight option on this power bank because you never know when you will need a flashlight in case something goes awry. (power outages, zombie apocalypse  or when you go camping.)

Longterm Review: RAVPOWER Lipstick Charger and Flashlight

ltrlip

Back in November of last year I reviewed the Ravpower Lipstick charger and I am here to give you my longterm update on this awesome yet inexpensive portable charger!

003I use this everyday for all of my gadgets and the Ravpower is always in my backpack or messenger bag ready to charge my device.  On one occasion, while riding my bike super-fast like Evil Knievel, I pulled the Ravpower out of my pocket to use the flashlight, as the headlight on my bike had run out of juice, and I dropped the Ravpower! NOOOOOO! It went skidding across the street kind of like that flat stone you skipped across the lake in the summer. It missed certain destruction from a car by about a foot or so.  I thought to myself  “Self, I have a feeling it’s done…” Continue reading “Longterm Review: RAVPOWER Lipstick Charger and Flashlight”
