No. Pixel 11 Pro Does NOT Take Better Close Up Photos Than The Pixel 10 Pro.

A rumor I was hoping to be true, but like so many other areas of the Pixel Pro experience, the 11 Pro might actually be worse than its predecessors.

Google has changed the camera sensors on the 11 Pro. They’re functionally VERY close to the kinds of sensors we had on 9 Pro and 10 Pro. With those changes come rumors though, and one interesting rumor was that Google might be improving the telephoto camera to include a lens that can physically focus closer to your subject.

Made by Google ’26 Pixel 11 Reactions: A Celebration of Mediocrity

I woke up early on Wednesday to help get my daughter ready for school. I was enjoying a lazy morning, content in the thought that I had hours to go before the Made By Google event launching all the new Pixels. Instead of gearing up to write and shoot reactions at 10am, Google was pushing “GO” at 3pm pacific. I’d even be able to enjoy a lunch while writing up a few notes. No rush at all. Nice.

While enjoying my morning coffee I scrolled through some feeds, and saw that the reviewer embargo had already lifted on Pixel 11 Pros. The “reviews” were already live, and the event wasn’t going to happen for another seven hours.

What’s the point of doing the event? Continue reading “Made by Google ’26 Pixel 11 Reactions: A Celebration of Mediocrity”

Vivo X300 Ultra Camera Conclusion: My Favorite Ultra of 2026

An Ultra camera phone in every sense of the word.

This year, we’ve seen an incredible arms race in mobile camera tech. It’s impossible to really “go wrong” with a Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, or Huawei if the main criteria you care about is photography.

The bracket for Chinese Ultras is really tight right now, but there are a handful of small refinements, new features, and accessories that just barely push the Vivo over the edge for me. This is an increasingly mature photography and video solution which continues to blur the lines between phone and proper camera.

I can’t claim it’s the objective best phone of the year, but this is my favorite Ultra of the year. Continue reading “Vivo X300 Ultra Camera Conclusion: My Favorite Ultra of 2026”

I’ve gotten numerous requests to comment on the recent round of rumors that OnePlus could be packing up and leaving the global smartphone market. I don’t like commenting on rumors, but this topic has surfaced with enough regularity, I can at least contribute some thoughts.

[Please remember, my brand bias is “competition”. The main thing I care about is seeing an accurate description of competitive options in a consumer market. I spend unequal time on less search engine popular brands, because I don’t believe those companies get a fair consideration from tech influencers with larger audiences. With that disclaimer out of the way…]

What if OnePlus Left?

I’d be really sad to lose OnePlus.
