Kairos Launches Pre-Order Page for Hybrid Mechanical Smartwatch

watch_large_noReflection_msw_allThis is a pretty sexy looking concept piece.

Kairos is showing off a concept watch with a mechanical chronograph and a semi-transparent touch screen. The teaser shows off the newly announced Android Wear smartwatch OS, which is exactly what us watch fans were hoping to see. Now that Google is directly involved in wearables, other companies don’t have to risk as much to enter the smartwatch market, nor do they have to build a watch UI from scratch.

watch_large_noReflection_msw_chrome_02At first glance, you’d only see a precision analog watch face, but as the “smart” features are activated, and as alerts are received, the screen lights up to show off data.

Kairos is confident that they’ll be able to deliver on this mock up, as they’ve launched a pre-order page with four models to shop. They’re trying to entice new customers with early bird pricing up to 50% off what retail will be once the watches are officially released. Starting at $499 and climbing to $1199, you’ll have several options for build material and watch band.

Better get a jump on though as prices will double in about 40 days. You can see their teaser vid below, or hit up https://kairoswatches.com/ for more info.

Will We See the LG G Watch on May 27?

lg g watchWith another video teaser released, LG has lit up the rumors on whether we’ll see the recently announced G Watch make an appearance alongside the LG G3.

Touting long battery life and a waterproof build, the video wraps with a “Powered By Android Wear” banner, a sign of Google’s involvement in branding the software experience for future compatible wearables.

What do you think? Will this be a package deal, or will LG slow play to prevent their next flagship phone from getting upstaged? Wild speculation in the comments is encouraged.

LG Releases Teaser Video for the G3

lg g 3Under the banner of “Simple is the New Smart”, LG teased the Android community today with some footage of the next G flagship.

Rumors are swirling with what will actually be inside the phone. The G2 was fairly ahead of the curve from a specs perspective, so it’ll take some significant hardware to wow the specs-obsessed Android elite.

We’ll all know more come LG’s proper announcement on May 27, but until then we at least have some confirmation that the G3 looks like it will follow in HTC’s footsteps with an aluminum build. Hit the vid below, and try to keep the drool off your keyboards. Let’s maintain a little dignity ok folks?

qualcomm toq speech to text teaser videoQualcomm just keeps delivering on their Toq platform.

I had no idea the watch had an accelerometer built in, but a recent update included fitness tracking. Now it seems there’s a mic built into the wearable which just hasn’t been activated yet.

Teased in this Youtube video, speech to text is coming built on the Nuance recognition engine which also powers Siri. The system works server side, so your phone will need to have an active data connection. Continue reading “UPDATED with Video! Qualcomm Enables Speech to Text on Toq Smartwatch”

Samsung Teases Galaxy K / S5 Zoom on Instagram

Those cheeky little phone manufacturers.

Samsung will be unveiling SOMETHING with a ‘K’ at the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore on April 29th. How better to tease the announcement? Why not show off a video of the Red Dot Museum, being zoomed in on by some kind of camera which can zoom in a lot? Perhaps some kind of Galaxy Zoom maybe? Possibly?

We’ll find out more tomorrow I suppose. In the meantime, we’ve seen a couple leaked photos of the S5 Zoom, showing a slimmer design than the S4 Zoom, and a new textured back plate which resembles the dimples on the Galaxy S5.

Android Wear Teaser Videos Show Off Google Now on Your Wrist

Android WearIn a pair of videos showing off their new wearable OS, Google finally took the wraps off their long rumored smartwatch UI.

Dubbed Android Wear, it’s a system designed to feed notifications, small pieces of contextual information, and voice controlled services to your wrist. Modular enough for a variety of square and circular form factors (like that sexy Moto 360), it features a Google Now card style interface to feed you small pieces of relevant info. Backed up by voice actions, users should be able to stay informed as to what’s happening in their digital world, while still being able to interact with messages. A handy little trick in providing us tools to actually use our phones less while still consuming data services.

LG and Moto are already announcing hardware to use the new Wear software, and traditional watch manufacturers like Fossil are expressing interest as well. This might be the mainstream push required to get “old world” makers on board.

Also announced is a preview SDK releasing this week, so developers can already start work on migrating apps and services to these smaller screens.

Motorola Announces Gorgeous Moto 360 Smartwatch

*** Update: Our Moto 360 Review is now live! ***

motorola moto 360 smartwatch teaser announced (2)I try not to just gush, especially about products I haven’t actually handled yet, but following on the heels of a circular smartwatch mock up floating around the web, Motorola went ahead and did that.

Little is known about the Moto 360 right now, but this teaser vid walks us through some of the design process. It’s maybe the prettiest geek time piece I’ve seen to date.

It looks like Moto is focusing on the new Android for wearables SDK which was recently released, enabling a number of Google Now style controls and notifications. We’re likely looking at a Summer release, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to wearing one.
