Shooting video. Using your LCD to compose stills. Outdoor photography can be challenging in direct sunlight. Kamerar’s VF4+ uses brackets and rails to isolate your LCD screen, protect it from the sun, and provide a little extra magnification to insure you land your focus. Let’s take a look!
Smartphone Camera Review: Nokia Lumia 830 on AT&T (Real World Video Samples)
Spoiler alert: It’s a really good camera.
You can always count on Nokia to pack a great camera on a phone at any price point. The Lumia 830 is a mid-range phone, so let’s see if the 10MP shooter is a mid-range camera!
SomeGadgetGuy in THREE-DEE!!!
I’ve really been enjoying my time with the Samsung NX30 which I picked up during their #DITCHtheDSLR event in Hollywood. It’s been a killer little mirrorless APS-C camera, and we’ve been using it recently to shoot our video reviews at 60FPS!
Well, you can’t really test an interchangeable lens camera without a couple extra lenses to interchange, so the fine folks at Samsung sent over a few for us to review, including their 45mm F1.8 3D lens!
I’m finding it’s actually terrifically difficult to share 3D files using traditional social networks, so I’ve set up a OneDrive folder where you can download the MPO files and view them directly via whatever method you prefer to use for 3D content. I’ve personally been running the files through an NVIDIA 3D Vision setup, and the shots are coming out much better than I would’ve expected for a consumer 3D solution.

App Review: Movie Creator Video Editor for Windows Phone – Full Feature Walk Through & Tutorial
I can’t tell you how excited I am to see a full fledged video editor on Windows Phone. Now with some of the best cameras ever bolted onto our smartphones, we now have the ability to cut up high resolution video directly from the phones that shot it. Best of all this app is cross platform for any Windows device with a touch screen.
Here’s our full review, feature walk through, and tutorial of Movie Creator on Windows Phone 8.1! Enjoy!
SomeGadgetGuy Videos Moving to High Frame Rate 60FPS HD!
The bummer is, I’ve been shooting 60fps video for a couple weeks, but Google has only just now graced my Youtube channel with the ability to broadcast high frame rate video.
Thankfully the first video to feature the extra frames is my review of the Galaxy Note 4 (which is embedded below), so I’m happy to see that monster review actually benefit from the extra time it took to render that huge file.
If your browser supports it, hit the quality settings in the bottom right hand corner, and you should see the option to stream in 60fps on all videos moving forward. Delight in the almost unnaturally liquid-y smooth motion, and know that my workstation is melting in producing it.
Samsung Galaxy Alpha Exclusively Available at AT&T Sept. 26
The Galaxy Alpha is an interesting statement of a phone from Samsung. The Alpha steps away from Sammy’s usual “throw in everything and the kitchen sink” manufacturing approach, and working on crafting a more refined experience. It seems tailor-made to combat the newly released iPhone 6.
Instead of continuing a specs war, the Alpha takes solid performing hardware and pairs it with the metal build quality we’ll soon see on the Galaxy Note 4.
AT&T has announced today they will be the exclusive carrier of the Alpha in the USA, and the phone will be available to buy starting September 26 for $200 on a two year contract. If you’ve been considering an Alpha, drop us a comment, and you can read AT&T’s full PR (with a video teaser) below.

Instagram Shows Off Hyperlapse App to Smooth Out Video and Time Lapse
Hyperlapse is becoming something of a buzz word. It’s essentially a time lapse video, but with more (and smoother) movement. Microsoft recently showed off an incredibly complex and beautiful method to achieve fluid time lapse video. Now Instagram is taking the wraps off of their solution.
It’s novel in its simplicity. Many phones incorporate some form of electronic image stabilization. Instagram’s Hyperlapse app will use the sensors in your phone to detect movement, and then it’ll filter that movement out to give you a smoother tracking shot. As it detects movement in real time while recording, it’s unknown if the app will be able to import and smooth out previously shot video.
The UI is incredibly simple. Push big red button to capture video. Once Finished capturing, there’s a slider to change playback speed from 1X to 12X, and then you have the option to share that video with Instagram or Facebook.
As this is Instagram, it’s iPhone only for now, as they’re sorting out Android API’s, and it’s doubtful we’ll see this on Windows Phone (and those incredible Nokia cameras) any time soon. It is live now for you iOS folks though on the App Store.
See another sample from Hyperlapse below!
