Take Better Photos: Smartphone Photography For Noobs! Updates for 2020 are now live!

I’m really proud of this one.

I started writing a blog post about phone photography in 2013. To explain one concept, I had to write another post to explain a different concept. That snowballed into a series of posts and videos. Eventually, the only thing that made sense was to turn it into a book, which was published in 2015.

Every year I take another pass through revising the book, and the updates for 2020 are out now!I would normally have published an updated version earlier in the year, but I didn’t plan on “global pandemic” altering my work flow as much as it would. I’m glad I took a little extra time with this revision though.

A LOT has changed in mobile photography over the last five years.

Camera sensor technology has moved through several trends. Software has evolved significantly. The marketing continues to be ridiculous.

However, photography is still a technical art. As our phone camera tech improves, there’s never been a better time to focus our conversation around the tool most people will have immediate access. The best camera is the one you have with you.

This is the most significant update to Take Better Photos I’ve yet accomplished.

Nearly every section has received some attention. Passages on sensor design, and multi-sensor cameras have been brought up to date. Chapters on apps and software include more current options for getting work done directly on your phone.

New chapters explain the bleeding edge of camera tech, super-zoom phone cameras, and these new massive megapixel sensors.

But it’s still a book about photography.

Not an iPhone book. Not an Android book. It’s a photography book.

If you’ve already purchased Take Better Photos on Amazon, you should be able to update the book to the most current version 1.2.4. If you haven’t yet purchased the book, I hope you’ll check it out.
