Geek Book Club 006 – The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin

The Left Hand of Darkness is an incredible achievement in science fiction, pushing the boundaries on late 1960’s gender discussion, and building a world for future novels to explore.

What happens to a society when you strip away gender, and then introduce a man into that society? Plus we get super squirrely talking about fantasy characters’ genitals…

Geek Book Club 005 – Little Brother by Cory Doctorow

Our review of ‘Little Brother’ by Cory Doctorow! It’s time to tackle some YA fiction, and why not also get SUPER political! Doctorow’s book takes a hard look at American politics and our government’s response to tragic events. Can a group of tech savvy kids take down Homeland Security? How can young citizens get involved?

Geek Book Club 004 – Leviathan Wakes (1st book in The Expanse series)

An incredible blend of gumshoe noir and hard science fiction. ‘Leviathan Wakes’ has been on Juan’s list for a while now, especially given the success of ‘The Expanse’ TV show. Andrew FINALLY twisted Juan’s arm to read it, AND a special guest drops by to chat some excellent Sci-Fi! Enobong Etteh from BooredatWork JUST finished the audio book, and is down to chat!

Geek Book Club 002 – The Three-Body Problem

An incredible undertaking in science fiction, and a fantastic translation. The Three-Body Problem is a unique take on the classic alien “first contact” story told from a Chinese perspective. What would Earth look like if we knew extra-terrestrials were on their way to our planet?

Geek Book Club 001 – The Man From Earth

Jerome Bixby is most known for his work as a TV writer, penning four episodes of the original Star Trek, an episode of the Twilight Zone, and co-wrote the story which Isaac Asimov would later adapt into ‘Fantastic Voyage’. His last work was an intimate screenplay about a man claiming to be an immortal caveman. A story almost forty years in the making, here’s our look at The Man From Earth!

Geek Book Club 000 – Superman: Red Son

A HUGE “what if” story that we’re embarrassed to say, Juan has never fully read in one sitting. Andrew and Juan take a look at an alternate universe story featuring the most iconic superhero of all time. What if Superman grew up in the USSR instead of Smallville?
